Decanter magazine reports that screw caps now represent nearly 15% of the worldwide closure market for wine bottles. An Italian wine closure company cites a 25% growth in screw cap closures in the last year alone, much of which has come from abroad. There has been significant growth in both old world markets such as France, Italy and Germany and new world markets such as Australia, New Zealand, Argentina, Spain and Austria. Screw cap closures have gained in popularity over the last several years not only because it circumvents TCA and TBA cork taint but because they are easy to open.
