The EU has voted to uphold the ban against rose wine produced from blending red and white wine. The Union had proposed lifting the ban in order to increase the production of Rose. However, vigorous protests from traditional Rose producers that the change would dilute the quality of the wine resulted in a defeat of the proposal. Traditional Rose is produced by limiting the contact of red grape skin with its juice, thereby maintaining a pink hue.
