Concha Y Toro Cabernet Sauvignon Puento Alto Don Melchor, 2004:
A very muscular wine with aromas and flavors of currant, fig, tar, coffee and a hint of earthiness. Rich tannins and a solid finish. Drink this Chilean wine now or over the next year or two….runs around $60. If you’re interested in the ’05 or ’06, they’re equally robust and will run you, on average, $60-$70.
Tenimente Angelini Brunello Di Montacino Val Di Suga, 2001:
2001 was an outstanding year for Brunellos and are now coming into their drinking window. The Angelini Val Di Suga Brunello. It’s loaded with lots of plum and dark cherry fruit, some spices and soft and rounded tannins. While not overly complex, it’s a lovely representatation of what the entry ‘01’s are all about…..runs ~$50 and can be enjoyed now or over the next several years.
Quinta de la Quietud Toro, 2003:
Translated as “Estate of Tranquility,” Quietud is a Spanish wine anchored by the Tempranillo grape displaying a solid wave of cherry and wood and soft, beautiful tannins. Glides into a tasty finish, the dark cherry hanging on. Average price ~$30. Drink now.
Bieler Pere et Fils Coteaux D’aix –en –Provence Rose Sabine, 2009:
Ok………repeat after me………..Rose wines are made for Tucson. Refreshing, lively and as food friendly as any wine, Bieler is a lovely blend of 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache and 20% Cabernet Sauvignon. From the heart of Provence, this wine has it all for our very warm spring (beginning now) and torrid summers. Drink this wine by itself or with nearly any dish. Best of all, it is incredibly affordable running around $13. This is a wine you enjoy now and it is very accessible so back the truck up and start sipping.
