This edition offers a lineup of reds that with great quality and a pricing range that makes them worth the effort.

Mollydooker South Australia Two Left Feet, 2006:

Sparky and Sarah Marquis continue their run of outstanding wines from the entry to collectible level.  If you have any of the 2006 in your cellar, consider yourself fortunate as it’s difficult to find that vintage out on the open market.  The good news is that the ’09 is just as good and as affordable.

Zin Twins Take Center Stage

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

During a rather sad New England Patriots loss to the Jets last week ( revenged by the Steelers on Sunday), we opened up a couple of bottles of one of my favorite Zin producers, Seghesio.  We started with the 2008 Sonoma followed by the ’07 Old Vine.  Paired with home made chili, both of these were just an outstanding match.

Thanksgiving Wines At the Table

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

Our Thanksgiving dinner will be pretty traditional this year.  I’ll try to stick to my mantra of offering a variety of consumer friendly wines to the guests while saving the “collectibles” for another time.

We’ll start with cilantro/horseradish spiced shrimp cocktail paired with a Schramsberg Mirabelle Sparkling Rose.  We’ve had a lot of success with this palate refreshing pairing, the bubbly playing perfectly off the spice of the cocktail sauce.  Schramsberg also offers a wonderful Blanc de Blanc and Blanc de Noir Sparkling Wine.  Also on the appetizer menu is a warm spinach/artichoke dip with veggies.  I’m not yet sure what wine I’ll choose for this.  Considering that the dip is somewhat thick and creamy yet has a tang of the artichoke, I may go with a White Bordeaux.
