It was announced recently that world renown Australian wine producer, Penfolds, is trialing a new glass closure system on its famed 2006 Grange; this after German wine producer Schloss Vollrads and an Italian biodynamic producer have converted some of their bottle closures. It is hoped that the new system will eliminate the risk of TCA through traditional corks while still allowing the wine to age normally. Penfolds went on the state that they are in the very early stages of the trial and will be in better position to make a final decision on the closure system in a couple of years.
